An offensive outburst earned the College of the Canyons softball team a 14-12 victory over Citrus College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars got off to a slow start, as they trailed 9-2 after three innings, but fortunately the Cougars bats came alive in the final four innings.
The comeback started when COC was able to post a nine-run sixth inning, thanks to a three-run homer by outfielder Andrea Brackpool and RBI doubles by Karlee Bickford, Kimmie Lockhart and Savannah Gutierrez.
This gave COC a 13-9 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Citrus scored three runs and cut the deficit to one run going into the final inning.
Left fielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon provided the Cougars with a huge insurance run in the top of the seventh, as she hit a solo homer to increase lead to two runs.
The Owls had the game-winning run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but the batter popped out and the Cougars won in exciting fashion.
With the win, the Cougars clinched a conference title. Colon, Bickford and Gutierrez combined for nine hits and five RBIs. Brackpool went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs.
Canyons will travel to L.A. Valley on Thursday, April 18 for 1 and 3 p.m. games.
