Deputies Looking for Suspect in Monday Night Stabbing

scvsheriffunitDetectives with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA team are investigating a stabbing at an apartment complex in the 23700 block of Valle Del Oro in Newhall.

The stabbing happened late Monday night, said Sgt. Dean Currie of the station’s COBRA team.

After a fight broke out in the parking lot of the apartment complex, the victim was stabbed, Currie said.

“It was at the bottom of the stairs, somewhere in the parking lot,” Currie said, adding that detectives were still gathering information about the incident from witnesses.

The victim, who was transferred to a local hospital, is expected to survive the incident, Currie said.

“He’s going to be OK. From what I’ve heard, he’s not in critical (condition),” Currie said.

Witnesses reported beer cans and there were people in the area drinking, he said, however detectives have not yet determined the motive for the crime.

Detectives are still looking for the suspect, who is believed to be a 25-year-old Hispanic man.

The station’s COBRA team, or Career Offender Burglary Robbery Apprehension Team investigates all juvenile crimes and all gang-related incidents.

The victim was not in a gang, according to Currie.

Overall, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has investigated three fewer aggravated assault incidents this year compared to last year in year-to-date figures available at the Sheriff’s Department’s website.

There have been 21 violent crimes reported in Newhall so far this year, according to the local sheriff station’s Nixle reports.
