Local Artist to Display, Perform at Canyon Theatre

lauriemorgan_artworkLocal artist and former president of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association Laurie Morgan will exhibit her paintings at the Canyon Theatre Guild, May 25 through June 23. There will also be an artist’s reception on Friday, June 7 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Morgan, a veteran of the CTG, will be performing in their production of “The Little Mermaid” during the same time.

“I’m delighted to be back at the CTG,” she said. “I’ve been cast in over a dozen plays at the Canyon Theatre, and displayed my art there once, but never at the same time. I’m excited to be playing a dual role, that of the storyteller ‘Aunt Lottie’ and also the ‘Sea Witch’.”

Playing the nurse in “Romeo and Juliet” six years ago was the last time Morgan performed at the CTG.

“Director/Writer Wade Bradford told me a year ago he was writing a version of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ and he thought I might be interested in one of the roles.”

The SCAA and the CTG have partnered for many years. For every CTG production, a member of the artists’ association exhibits his or her work.

“I’m the liaison between the CTG and the SCAA, helping to pick the exhibiting artists from our membership,” Morgan said. “This slot wasn’t booked yet, so I earmarked myself in the hope that I might be in the play as well. Happily the circumstances proved positive for visual and performing art to meet.”

Running concurrently with “The Little Mermaid” is “The Fox on the Fairway.” For tickets or more information regarding the productions, contact The Canyon Theatre at 661-799-2702 or visit [their website]. For information regarding SCAA, call 661-244-7689 or [click here].
