Twenty-year-old college student Cristian Guerrero has been performing on stage since he was thirteen years old.
Now, he’s going behind-the-scenes as director of one of the segments for Valencia High School’s Musical Revue.
As a screen acting student, Cristian is used to writing scripts and rehearsing nonstop. He is best known for his role in Mad World, an original musical that he wrote along with his friend Steven Schmidt. The musical’s plot centers around the life of Lewis Carroll as he writes the story of Alice in Wonderland. Focused on continuing the project, Cristian and the rest of the creative team have worked to evolve the script into a short film.
When Cristian is not busy with schoolwork or rehearsals of his own, he is helping his former classmates with the upcoming musical. Cristian volunteers his time as one of the directors for the musical revue. His job is to teach the Valencia High School theatre students songs and choreography from the musical, In the Heights. Cristian says how he loves working with high school students and is appreciative to be back as he helps with the production.
Cristian’s advice for anyone who is interested in performing is to just start small and take it from there, because he himself believes that some of the nicest people he has met are performers.
Watch Cristian’s work as the Valencia High Theatre performs In the Heights, along with other musical numbers from the likes of Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Kooks: The David Bowie Musical, and more. Performances are Tuesday, April 23 through Friday, April 26 at the Valencia High School theatre. Shows start at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at the door for $10.
