The City of Santa Clarita will be holding two fire safety workshops this month for residents interested in learning about revisions to the City’s High Fire Hazard Zone. The workshops will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 and Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
The boundaries of the City’s current “Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone” are being modified under direction from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. As part of these changes, any property identified as being at high risk from potential wild fires will be included in the High Fire Hazard Zone while properties that are no longer at risk as a result of recent residential or commercial developments will no longer be in the Fire Hazard Zone.
Representatives from the Los Angeles County Fire Department Forestry Division along with City staff will be available to discuss the impact fires have on the community and revisions to the High Fire Hazard Zone ordinance, including: boundary changes, impacts for affected properties, and construction requirements for properties located in the High Fire Hazard Zone as outlined in the California Building Code.
For more information on the open house, please contact Bill Read, Assistant Building Official at 661-284-1403 or visit Santa-Clarita.com.
