Sen. Steve Knight, R-Antelope Valley, introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution this week. This measure would recognize the contributions of the aerospace industry to the history, economy, security, and educational system of California, its communities, and its citizens by proclaiming the month of March 2013 as California Aerospace Month. Nineteen Senate and seven Assembly colleagues have joined Senator Knight in co-authoring this important resolution.
“America is a world leader in human space flight, and California was instrumental since the early days of research through developing test vehicles, and now onto the new frontier – commercial space flight. Our state is home to a numerous aerospace companies, many with a presence in my Senate district. These businesses are vital to our economy and jobs,” said Senator Steve Knight (R-Antelope Valley). “As we celebrate California Aerospace Month, we must recognize the significant contributions our state continues to have on the aerospace industry. We have always been a leader and innovator, a state that individuals and businesses are naturally drawn to.
“Right now, however, California is at risk of seeing these companies flee to other states. We simply cannot afford to allow that to happen. We must provide a business environment that is conducive for thriving, prosperous aerospace industry. It is essential that we not only maintain a presence here, but also that we entice jobs back to California. We should continually strive to make breakthroughs in science and technology that this state and this nation can be proud of, and events during Aerospace Week remind us that a robust aerospace industry is essential to California.
Additionally,Knight has been selected to serve as Chair of the Select Committee on Defense and Aerospace. Sens. Anderson, Berryhill, Galgiani, Fuller, and Lieu are also sitting members of this committee.
“To be named chair of the Select Committee on Defense and Aerospace is a great honor”, added Knight. “This is an industry that is close to my heart, and very important to my district. It is a priority to ensure that aerospace is part of California’s future, and as Chair of the Select Committee, I am in a great position to make certain that it does.”
Steve Knight represents California’s 17th Senate District, which includes about half of the Santa Clarita Valley.
