Blotter: Burn Mark on Newhall School Picnic Table Investigated as Arson

This week Newhall (Zone 6) again saw eight part-one crimes. Newhall had two shoplifting incidents, two residential burglaries, two commercial burglaries, one arson, and one grand theft.


Arson was reported on the campus of Newhall Elementary school on Tuesday, 03/12/13 at approximately 4:00pm. School staff found a circular burn mark left on one of the school picnic tables. The fire department was never called because the damage found was only to the public table. LASD Arson / Explosives detail is handling the investigation (ref -03417).


A residential burglary was reported from the 21300 block of Trumpet Drive. The victim reported an unknown person entered her apartment and stole her computer, her camera, and her camera lens from her bedroom. There was no evidence of forced entry into the residence. (ref -03465).


An attempt burglary and trespassing was reported on the campus of Newhall Elementary on Saturday, 03/16/13 at approximately 9:00pm. Deputies responded to a call for service at that location and observed three males inside the school. The three males were walking from the library area towards the field. Deputies observed a broken glass window. Deputies continued their investigation which resulted in the arrest of Eduardo Rodriguez and Oscar Castillo, both 18 year old males from Newhall. A 14 year old male was also arrested / detained as a result of the investigation (ref -03661).

On Thursday, 03/14/13 at approximately 11:00pm deputies contacted an 18 year old male in the area of Carl Court and Newhall Avenue while on a traffic stop. During the course of the traffic stop deputies discovered the 18 year old male was reportedly in possession of marijuana and metal knuckles. The male was arrested on a felony weapon charge (ref -03574).
