Hikers Rescued from Steep Terrain in Placerita Canyon

rescue032313Kevin Roberts called Santa Clarita Valley Station at 7:39 p.m. Friday to report himself stuck on the face of a rock on the Los Pinetos Hiking Trail.

He also stated he has become separated from his girlfriend, who he believed to be lost in the area, as well.

Roberts was able to contact Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station via his cellphone.

An immediate activation of the station’s Search and Rescue Team was executed.

The command post was set up approximately two miles north of Placerita Nature Center at 19152 Placerita Canyon Road, near Walker Ranch. After the deployment of six Search and Rescue deputies, along with the assistance of L.A. County Fire Helicopter No. 12 , Roberts and his girlfriend Felicia Nau, 20, were rescued and brought back without incident.

They were found approximately two miles from the trailhead and unable to make their way down the steep terrain due to the darkness.

Neither Roberts nor Nau was injured in the incident.
