As I drive through our city, I am pleased with the results of our many beautification projects we’ve been able to complete over the last few years.

Most recently, we completed the new Lyons Avenue monument sign adjacent to the Lyons/I-5 Corridor Beautification Project.  Right now, we are working on several other beautification projects, including:  Sierra Highway Landscape Median Beautification (anticipated to begin construction this spring and be completed by summer 2013); Construction of the Canyon Country Monument Sign on Soledad adjacent to the SR-14/Sand Canyon on & off-ramps (anticipated to begin construction this summer); Installation of landscape improvements and a “Welcome” sign on Via Princessa, east of SR-14, as you enter Fair Oaks Ranch (anticipated to begin construction in summer 2013); and construction of the Sand Canyon/SR-14 Corridor Beautification Project (anticipated to begin construction this summer).

These projects go a long way towards creating a beautiful community of which we can all be proud.

I would like encourage you and your family to attend an important community event.  On Saturday, April 27, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, the city and its partners will host the Emergency Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (9 a.m. early access for special needs).   The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a wide range of demonstrations and exhibits aimed at helping you with your preparedness for the next emergency.

Santa Clarita has weathered 11 federally-declared disasters in the last 25 years, and the next “big one” is not a matter of “if,” but “when” – so please make sure you and your family are prepared. More information about the Emergency Expo is available at www.scvhomeandgarden.com.

If you are looking for something to do in Santa Clarita, I encourage you to check out the Santa Clarita community calendar.  Local clubs, organi ations, nonprofits, churches and local government regularly post their events to the city’s online community calendar, and we want to encourage you to post your community events, as well.  Check it out or post your events at no charge at www.santa-clarita.com.  (Click on the “residents” drop-down to access the community calendar.)

Thank you for your interest in our city.  I appreciate your participation in helping to make Santa Clarita a great place to call home.  Feel free to email me at kstriplin@santa-clarita.com.
