citylogo_sealThe city of Santa Clarita recognized key volunteers for their contributions to the Santa Clarita Marathon, publicly thanking many active Santa Clarita Runners Club Members on Tuesday during the City Council meeting.

Many recognized volunteers have been part of the Marathon since its inception in 1995, including Phil and Paola Howard. The Marathon would not be possible without the overwhelming support from the volunteers, said Kellar.

Since 1995, the SCRs have continued to support the race including expo and packet pick up staffing, race day course support and finish line services, giving much of their time to see the race excel.

“This year we had over 900 volunteers that helped over 5,000 runners from over 25 different states, with 36 runners qualifying for the prestigious Boston Marathon,” Kellar said.

In closing his letter, Kellar shared a letter written to the city of Santa Clarita from a participant from Omaha, Nebraska. A group of three runners came to town for the Marathon and enjoyed every aspect, from the scenery to the overwhelming support of the volunteers. He once again thanked everyone for their continued support, and stated he looks forward to the years to come.
