The City of Santa Clarita is updating planning and zoning regulations and invites residents, property owners and businesses to provide feedback on drafts of the Unified Development Code Update and Lyons Corridor Plan, which are now available for review.
Following the adoption of the City’s General Plan in June 2011, the Unified Development Code (UDC) is being updated to ensure consistency with the General Plan as well as state planning and zoning laws. As part of this effort, plans are also being developed to focus on the unique character of each community corridor. The first corridor planning effort will focus on Lyons Avenue between Interstate 5 to the west and Newhall Avenue to the east.
“Planning and zoning regulations help the City promote high quality developments and guide new growth within our community,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “Our goal with these two efforts is to create user-friendly, community engaged plans that residents, property owners and businesses can use.”
Community members are also invited to share feedback and discuss the draft Lyons Corridor Plan and draft UDC Update at upcoming outreach meetings, which will be held during the month of February.
The first community meeting will review the Lyons Corridor Plan on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m., with presentations at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., at Old Orchard Park in the Community Room, located at 25023 Avineda Rotella. The second and third meeting will review and include discussion on both the UDC Update and the Lyons Corridor Plan on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the Century Room at City Hall and on Tuesday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. in the Orchard Room at City Hall.
Both draft plans are also available for review at various locations, including the Permit Center of City Hall in Suite 140 and each of the Santa Clarita Public Library branches. To review both documents online, visit www.Santa-Clarita.com/udcupdate for the draft UDC Update and www.santaclaritacorridorplan.com for the draft Lyons Corridor Plan.
The purpose of the City’s UDC is to establish standards and guidelines to promote and protect public health, safety and the general welfare of community members. Revisions to the draft UDC include updates to the zoning map, property development standards, land use permit requirements, and parking and sign standards.
The Lyons Corridor Plan is a 102-acre plan that focuses on revitalization efforts to storefronts and public spaces. It also addresses developing high quality commercial properties to maximize spaces for public use based on building type, use, circulation and density for the Lyons Avenue corridor.
