Aug. 7: SCV Senior Center Offers Insight on Hoarding

srctrlogoAre you concerned a loved one may have a significant problem with hoarding? The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is hosting a free talk on the topic, presented by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m.

The talk, part of the Senior Center’s ongoing lineup of health and wellness discussions, will examine the differences between collecting, cluttering and hoarding, as well as what help is available for caregivers or individuals who may have a problem.

Hoarding is marked by a compulsive accumulation of usually worthless possessions and a corresponding inability to discard anything, according to a report by AARP, and disproportionately affects older men and women.

The SCV Senior Center is located at 22900 Market St. in Newhall. For more information call (661) 259-9444. The Senior Center hosts health and wellness talks every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in rooms A-1 and A-2. Visit www.scv-seniorcenter.org for a calendar of Senior Center events.
