The Jani Foundation, a new 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the educational and social needs of mentally ill children in the SCV’s special education programs, will hold a Bowl-A-Thon on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Valencia Lanes.
It will be the organization’s first fundraiser, and all proceeds will support social events that are free to the emotionally disturbed children who participate in them.
“We are seeking supporters to come out and bowl for the mentally ill children in our community,” spokesman Michael Schofield said. “Come out, have fun, and meet some of the children you help.”
The organization’s program for K-6 children is based at Old Orchard Elementary in the Newhall School District, Schofield said.
“Since many of these children can have the symptom of aggression or other socially inappropriate actions as a result of the brain based mental illnesses, there is a natural tendency for them to become isolated,” he said. “We believe that by providing social events for these children we increase their likelihood of continued positive social engagement as they grow older.”
Events this school year are planned at SkyHigh Sports, Scooter’s Jungle, Academy Swim and the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.
Tickets are $20 per person in teams of 5, and can be purchased online at www.janifoundation.org/join-us.
