COC's White Finishes 2nd to World Youth Champ in Triple Jump

College of the Canyons triple jumper Tim White won the silver medal on a tiebreaker at the Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships in Colombia.


White, a Hart High graduate, recorded a personal-best jump of 54 feet, 1 ¼ inches, but he was second to Lazaro Martinez of Cuba.


Martinez is the reigning World Youth champion in the triple jump. He also recorded a jump of 54 feet, 1 ¼ inches. The gold medal was awarded to the athlete with the best second jump. Martinez’s second jump was 53 feet, 9 inches to White’s 53 feet, 5 ½ inches.


In soccer, The Master’s College women shut out Westminster from Utah, 1-0, in the Westminster Tournament.


Canyon High graduate Devon Goff scored the lone goal of the game off an assist from Jasmine Benson in the 69th minute.


The Lady Mustangs are undefeated at 3-0 to start the season and have outscored their opponents, 12-0.


The Master’s College men’s soccer team lost to Westminster, 2-1, in a game that was stopped with two minutes to play because of lightning.


Westminster scored the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute.


The Master’s College scored in the first half on a goal by Kevin Scheunemann. Valencia High graduate Zach Klindworth assisted on the goal.


In auto racing, David Mayhew won both NASCAR Citgo Late Model Twin 35 races at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.


He has won four races in a row in the Late Models, winning a pair of twin 35s last weekend. Mayhew leads the NASCAR Citgo Late Model standings at the track by 36 points over Eric Richardson.


In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the visiting Boston Red Sox, 8-1. The Red Sox took two of three games from the Dodgers over the weekend. It was the first time the Dodgers have lost a series since June.


The Dodgers are back in action tonight against the Chicago Cubs.
