Two Dogs, Two Cats Die in Newhall House Fire

housefire080913-5 Two dogs and two cats died in a house fire on Alderbrook Drive in Newhall Friday afternoon.

The homeowner was treated on scene for minor burns to her arms, said Mark Savage, Los Angeles County Fire Department Battalion Chief. She and her son escaped without major injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters responded to reports of a garage fire just before 4 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival they found a well involved fire that had already extended into the attic and the living area of the home, Savage said.

“The smoke detector did work and alerted the homeowner of the fire,” Savage said.

Firefighters extinguished the flames minutes after they arrived on scene and are now continuing clean up and conducting an investigation.
