City's Mentor Program Teens Perform Service Work

ken-carlosOn August 1, eight teens completed the eight week Peers on the Way to Everlasting Rediscovery (POWER) Summer mentoring program. City Manager Ken Striplin and Assistant City Manager Frank Oviedo recognized the Summer POWER participants.

For two months, the teens worked throughout the community painting red curbs at the Activities Center and Central Park, preparing 25 additional garden plots at the Community Garden, and leveling and clearing brush from local trails as part of the work-experience component.

Teens surveyed after the program stated they felt they had improved in the areas of making right choices, respecting authority, confidence, and said they would refer the program to other teens.
