On Sunday, Aug. 4, at approximately 9 p.m., a theft occurred at Golden Oak Community School (Sulphur Springs district), located at 25201 Via Princessa, Canyon Country. A silver Apple iMac computer was discovered missing from the school. The exact date and time of the theft was determined by security camera footage. It was discovered that an officer from the private security company, which is contracted by the school district, was on the campus at the time of the theft.
A deputy made contact the security officer who was on duty at the time of the theft. While speaking to the security officer, the deputy learned the officer had obtained a key to the school building and that the stolen computer was back at the security company’s main office. Deputies responded to the security company’s office and recovered the school’s key and the stolen computer. Both items were released to a school district representative.
A second stolen computer from another local area school was also discovered inside the security company’s main office. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Detectives are currently in the process of investigating when and how the second computer was allegedly stolen.
Aleksei Ilnitskiy, a 32-year-old male from Saugus, was arrested for burglary on Friday, August 9, 2013, at 8:45 p.m. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has since filed one count of felony commercial burglary on Mr. Ilnitskiy. Mr. Ilnitskiy is currently being held on $65,000 bail at Men’s Center Jail and will appear back in court on 08/21/13.
