Art exhibits typically showcase visual components, but the “Art in Touch” traveling exhibit now on display in Santa Clarita features tactile and interactive art that’s meant to be touched.
From Friday, August 2, through Sunday, August 18, the exhibit will be open to the public on Town Center Drive in Space 125 during the following times: Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6:00 p.m.
“Art in Touch” features 15 works of art and was organized by the Arts Council of Kern. It was recently on display at Taft College and at the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Bakersfield. The exhibit was designed to appeal to all ages, with an emphasis on the blind and visually impaired, as pieces were meant to be touched and include artist interviews for an additional audio component of the exhibit.
“The City Council and the Arts Commission understand the many ways in which art enhances our lives. We are always looking for unique exhibits and “Art in Touch” is a great example of a one-of-a-kind experience for residents,” said City of Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar. “What makes the exhibit so unique is that it is both visual and tactile, which broadens its reach and inspires thought and conversation.”

The City’s Arts Commission worked with the Arts Council of Kern to bring “Art in Touch” to Santa Clarita. The exhibit was funded by a grant from the Black Rock Arts Foundation and features work by: Eileen Ettinger, Iva Fendrick, Kathryn and Stewart Fields, Enemerio Galvan, Marcy Holbrook, Justin Jennings, David Leitch, Bill Malis, Dan Slayton, Brian Stanton, Marlene Tatsuno, and Hank Washington.
“Art in Touch” will be on display now through Sunday, August 18, in space 125 on Town Center Drive at Westfield Valencia Town Center.
