Police Officer Hurt in Crash; Part of Whites Canyon Shut

A traffic collision on the southbound side of Whites Canyon Road near Nadal in Canyon Country left a San Gabriel Police Department officer in serious but stable condition.

The southbound side of Whites Canyon Road is expected to be shut down for several hours as a result of a traffic investigation, said Sgt. Rich Nagler of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was a traffic collision between a San Gabriel motorcycle officer and one of our citizens,” Nagler said. “We’re conducting an investigation.”

The road, between Nadal and Ranier is expected to be closed until at least 8:30 a.m. while the scene is investigated by the traffic unit of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The other party in the crash did not sustain any significant injuries, Nagler said.

Southbound Whites Canyon commuters are being diverted onto Eastbound Nadal Street by deputies, according to KHTS radio host George Cummings. “From there, drivers are able to get back onto Soledad Canyon Road by way of Shangri-La.”

There are no other details being released at this time pending the results of the investigation.
