“Les Miserables” is coming to Santa Clarita for the first time this summer.
This Santa Clarita Regional Theatre production of Boublil and Schönberg’s musical classic sweeps the audience through the epic tale of passion and destruction in 19th century France. A nation in the grip of revolution is the setting in which we follow paroled convict Jean Valjean. Forced to assume a false identity in order to leave his past behind and keep his vow to raise the young orphaned Cosette, Valjean is hunted relentlessly by police Inspector Javert.
With revolution in the air and Javert closing in, Valjean has no choice but to fight for his life and sacrifice everything to protect the people he loves. During the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert is forced to confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter. His world-view shattered, Javert commits suicide, and Valjean at last attains the peace he has sought for so long.
Performances are at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons on Saturdays at 8 p.m. July 20 & 27, Aug. 3 & 10; and Sundays at 2 p.m. on July 21 & 28, Aug. 4 & 11. Tickets range from $12 to $29. Call the box office at 661-799-2702 for reservations.
