Roundup: West Ranch Softball Still Undefeated

wrhs-logoThe West Ranch softball team is starting to run away from the rest of the Foothill League.


The Wildcats beat Valencia, 6-3, and ran its Foothill League record to 5-0. They have a commanding two-game lead over Valencia and Saugus for first place in the league standings.


Charlotte Romero delivered the big blow for West Ranch with a two-run double in the seventh inning. She reached base all four times she came to the plate.


Wendy Cardinali hit a two-run home run for Valencia in the sixth inning.


The Canyon softball team beat Hart, 13-11, in nine innings.


Sienna Vannoy had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for Hart.


The Saugus softball team beat Golden Valley, 21-2. Ty Cueva hit a grand slam for Saugus. Alyssa Rodriguez and Rachel Shotzbarger each had three hits for the Centurions.


Saugus is tied with Valencia for second place in the Foothill League with 3-2 records.


In high school golf, West Ranch shot 415 as a team and won the first day of the Newhall Cup at the TPC at Valencia. Joey Downer led the way for West Ranch with a 2-over 74.


Golden Valley’s Jonathan Kang shot the low round of the day at TPC with a 1-over 73.


In high school tennis, the Valencia boys beat Hart, 16-2, and improved to 9-0 in the Foothill League. The Vikings won their 70th league match in a row and won their seventh league title in a row.


In high school ice hockey, Valencia beat Saugus, 2-1, scoring both goals in the first period in the Ice Station Valencia league. Jordan Spesak and Jack Eld each had a goal for Valencia.


Brandon Case scored for Saugus.


The Hart ice hockey team shut out Burbank, 1-0. Cody Drees scored the lone goal of the game. David Anderson made 17 saves in goal for the shutout.


The Canyon ice hockey team lost to Antelope Valley, 17-1.


The West Valley ice hockey team beat Bakersfield, 6-4.


In baseball, the Dodgers beat the New York Mets, 7-2, and won their second game in a row. Mark Ellis hit two home runs and drove in four runs for the Dodgers.


Off the field, Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley will be out for the remainder of the season. He has elected to have season-ending Tommy John surgery.


In hockey, the Kings lost to the Minnesota Wild, 2-1. Jeff Carter scored his 26th goal of the season in the second period.


The Kings are in Detroit for a game against the Red Wings tonight.
