Roundup: Canyon Softball Wins 3rd Straight

softballThe Canyon softball team beat Golden Valley, 17-7, and won its third game in a row.


The Canyon girls scored seven runs in the first inning and added six more in the fourth inning. They had 15 hits as a team in the game.


The West Ranch softball team shut out Hart, 12-0, to remain undefeated in Foothill League play. Kylie Sorenson hit a home run and scored three times for West Ranch. Keeley Walsh drove in three runs and hit a double.


The Wildcats are 6-0 and in first place in the Foothill League.


The Saugus softball team beat Valencia, 4-1, behind a three-hitter from freshman starter Mariah Lopez. She had 11 strikeouts. The only run she surrendered was on a solo home run by Dominique Salgado.


Alyssa Rodrirguez hit a two-run home run for Saugus.


In high school track and field, the Golden Valley girls beat Saugus and won their first Foothill League championship.


Azaria Hill, Crystal Orellana and Imani Dixon combined to take 11 events for Golden Valley in an 86-57 win over Saugus at the meet.


The three girls were on the winning 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Hill won the 100 and 200 and Dixon won the 400.


The Golden Valley boys track and field team beat Saugus, 78-58, and won its second Foothill League championship in a row.


In auto racing, it’s opening night for the quarter-mile oval at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond tonight.


Five classes of race cars will be racing at the track. First race starts at 6.


In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, 94-82, in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.


Game 4 is Saturday in Memphis.


In baseball, the Dodgers beat the New York Mets, 3-2, scoring two runs in the ninth inning.


The Dodgers are back home to start a weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Dodger Stadium.
