April 25: Tip-A-Cop Event to Benefit Special Olympics

tipacopLos Angeles County Sheriff Departments Pitchess Detention Center will be hosting a Tip-A-Cop Challenge on Thursday, April 25.

“Let’s have a Tip-A-Cop Challenge.  I know the community will come out and support us.” says Sgt Gerri McCorkle. “The money we raise is for a great cause, Special Olympics.  One team will have bragging rights for the next year.”

Law Enforcement and Special Olympics have a great partnership beyond Tip-A-Cops including Torch Run, Opening Ceremony and awarding athlete’s medals and ribbons at competitions.

“All the money raised at Tip-A-Cop’s stays right here in the Santa Clarita Valley and benefit our athletes. The money raised helps pay for equipment, transportation, competitions, and uniforms for our athletes.”  says Laura Mayo, Regional Director Special Olympics.

There will be three teams working at three different restaurants to see which team can raise the most money for Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley in one night. On Thursday night starting at 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the three following locations: Chili’s Bar and Grill 25970 The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch, Chili’s Bar and Grill at 19071 Golden Valley Road in Canyon Country and Lazy Dog Café in Valencia.

Santa Clarita has over 350 athletes who are training in six sports. Our Spring Regional Games will be held at Hart High School, West Ranch High School and Newhall Park on Saturday, May 18, 2013. 800 athletes will complete in Basketball, Bocce and Track from Antelope Valley, Tri-Valley, Santa Barbara, Kern and South East Los Angeles.
