Daniel Jeon, Golden Valley High School

This week’s Wendy’s of Santa Clarita and SCVTV Student Athlete of the Week is Daniel Jeon of Golden Valley High School.  Daniel has a 4.4 GPA and scored 2000 on the SAT.  He says good grades are important to him because it helps him in the present as well as in the future.

“Grades are important because that’s what allows us to play football,” Daniel said.  ”And also it’s the gateway for our future.  Without good grades we have no ways of going to college and getting a good job and making a living.”

Daniel’s family instilled in him the importance of a good education at an early age.

“They expected me to put in my all,” he said.  ”It doesn’t really matter what kind of grade I get as long as it’s the effort that they see.  And I think that’s what really matters.”

He’s quick to point out, however, how his parents may have laid the foundation for his academic excellence, it is he who is feeling the benefit of what he is building.

“After putting in all the hard work and seeing that good grade it really encourages you and motivates you to keep on doing it,” Daniel said.  ”Just as you see on the football field, the more work you put in the better you get.  And I feel like that’s the same way in the classroom too.”

Daniel is putting together his list of colleges that would interest him most, but it will be hard to get him to sway from his No. 1 choice.

“Ever since I was a little kid I have wanted to go to USC,” he said.  ”But I’m also trying to look into more liberal arts schools and that kind of setting.  I think that might suit me best.”

Congratulations to Daniel Jeon of Golden Valley High School, the Wendy’s of Santa Clarita and SCVTV Student Athlete of the Week.
