[GSAC] – Golden State Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Daniels announced Monday that SCVTV Sports Director Dave Caldwell will handle the play-by-play of the Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball championship televised live on FOX College Sports (FCS) Tuesday, March 5.
Caldwell will be joined by color analyst Maryalyce Jeremiah, currently on staff at Hope International and the former women’s basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton. A member of four Hall of Fames, Jeremiah’s teams have appeared in the NCAA Tournament every place she has coached. She took Indiana to the Sweet Sixteen and won a National Championship with the University of Dayton.
Allen Hopkins will handle play-by-play duties for the men’s game and will be joined by Michael Cage.
Hopkins is a veteran college basketball announcer who has worked for FOX Sports and ABC/ESPN. In addition to his basketball coverage, Hopkins worked for FOX Soccer Channel for eight seasons as the play-by-play or lead analyst voice for many soccer broadcasts. Hopkins is also a graduate of Westmont College, playing on its men’s soccer team.
Cage is currently a basketball analyst for FOX Sports, ESPN, and Westwood One Radio. He has called games for the Pac 12 Conference, Big West Conference and Mountain West Conference. He is a 15-year NBA veteran that spent time with the Los Angeles Clippers, Seattle Supersonics, and three other NBA teams.
Caldwell is very familiar with the GSAC and is the current play-by-play announcer for The Master’s College men’s and women’s basketball teams. He has been a sportscaster in Santa Clarita for 15 years and was the “Voice of the Cal State Northridge Matadors” NCAA Division 1 basketball team for three years. Caldwell was named one of the Top Ten Play-By-Play sportscasters in Southern California by the Los Angeles Daily News.
The GSAC Men’s Basketball Championship game will be televised live on FOX College Sports at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time. The game will also be carried by Prime Ticket. The GSAC Women’s Basketball Championship game will be televised live on FOX College Sports at 5:00 pm Pacific Time. Both games will be produced by 35 Sports.
This is the first time the GSAC has had its conference championship games televised live on a regional or national platform. It is also the first time an NAIA conference has had its championship game televised on a regional network.
The GSAC consists of eight NAIA schools based in California and Arizona and is one of the premier conferences in the NAIA. The conference is home to the defending men’s basketball national champion, Concordia University – Irvine. Currently, Westmont College ranks sixth nationally in the latest NAIA DI men’s basketball poll. Hope International University ranks 21st and Arizona Christian University ranks 25th. Three women’s teams are ranked in the NAIA Top Twenty, including sixth-ranked Westmont, seventh-ranked Vanguard University, and eleventh-ranked The Master’s College. Biola University and San Diego Christian College are also members of the conference. The GSAC is in its 27thyear of existence.
