The Canyon Theatre Guild Presents, Seussical featuring the many works of Dr. Seuss performing a fun, family-friendly musical for all ages.
Adopted from the Broadway production, Seussical brings classic characters together reinforcing the moral of the story: “a person’s a person, no matter how small.”
The plot of the show mirrors that of Horton Hears a Who!, centering on Horton the Elephant and his endeavors to protect the people of Whoville. Horton discovers that a small speck of dust that has been speaking to him, is in fact home to a microscopic community where the Whos reside.
Other characters and scenarios within Dr. Seuss classics are featured in the show including Gertrude McFuzz, the Butter Side Uppers/Downers from The Butter Battle Book, and most importantly The Cat in the Hat who serves as your “host and MC” for the play.
Making her CTG Directorial debut with Seussical, Director Donna Manfredi wants the play to encourage kids and adults to celebrate their unique creativity, joy, and imagination. Being able to take a vision from her imagination to the stage has influenced her to continue directing. For this musical Mandfredi hopes to leave her audience with “the triumph of the human spirit that Dr. Seuss so beautifully brings across in the show.”
Horton the Elephant, played by George Chavez plays a crucial role in the performance. Chavez was genuinely touched by the warmth and human nature of the story, that he requested Director Donna Manfredi to somehow be a part of the production.
“This is a special part for me because I find value in characters that are kind of similar to me as a human,” Chavez laughs and notes, “of course this is a elephant, but it has human characteristic and human value”.
Seussical will be closing its last performance at Canyon Theatre Guild February 24, 2013. Tickets for this musical are $17 for adults and $15 for juniors and seniors. The Canyon Theatre Guild is located at 24242 Main Street in Old Town Newhall. For reservations call 661-799-2702.
