COC looks to dominate at home as they have done so far this season, with an 8-2 record at home.
For coach, Howard Fisher and the Cougars, the 2012-13 campaign has undoubtedly been a successful one. Not only did the Cougars clinch the Western State Conference, they have practically been unbeatable since the beginning of January, winning 10 of their last 11 games.
They have managed to win the close games that come down to the wire; something that coach Fisher feels shows growth and maturity in his team.
“They have grown a lot; I think that’s been the biggest difference aside from their comfort level within the offense,” says coach Fisher.
It is clear to see that there is a bond in place that has allowed them to trust one another on the court.
Having two Division 1 transfers in Temjae Singleton and Jaylen Bland doesn’t hurt either.
Temjae Singleton transferred from New Mexico State University in 2011, and Jaylen Bland transferred from Murray State University in the fall of 2012.
Although the Cougars feature plenty of talent, size and athleticism has been a huge part of their success this season. Earlier in the year, it was easy to tell the team was lacking a bit of chemistry in terms of their ball movement; however that quickly changed, and the current Cougar team looks to be the complete opposite.
“Everyone’s comfortable with their own role within the offense. That wasn’t the case a few months ago.”
Whatever the difference has been, one thing is for sure, this Cougar team has an advantage in many key facets no matter who they play. It was only a matter of a group of talented individuals, playing like a team, and they have certainly done that.
