CougarNews.com | COC Baseball ends 2-game losing streak just in time for conference play.

SANTA CLARITA– The COC baseball team came out swinging in their conference opener Saturday, rolling over  Bakersfield 5-1 and snapping a two game losing streak.

After giving up a first inning run, COC starting pitcher Steven Farnworth  was virtually un-hittable giving up just 3 hits and and striking out a pair of batters.

Bakersfield’s starting pitcher, Justin Kelly, didn’t have the outing he hoped for.

The  leftty went 6 innings and gave up 5 runs on 9 hits, while giving up 3 walks and a homerun to COC’s Trey Williams in the bottom of the fourth inning.

“It felt great, it was the first ball I’ve hit solid all season,” Williams said.

COC got on the board early in the game, scoring in the bottom of the first off a Chad DeLaGuerra ground out to second base, with a run scored by Alex Bishop.

The 3rd inning is where COC changed the game.

After a single, walk, and another single to load up the bases, COC’s Kamran Young singled to left to drive in the go-ahead run to put COC up 2-1.

Chad DeLaGuerra  later scored after Kevin Lenik grounded into a double play to put COC up 3-1 to end the 3rd inning.

“I think we are a pretty good team, and at 3-4 coming into this game, I dont really think shows our strength of our team. If we can play catch and pitch well, I think we can win games,”  Chris Cota, COC Head coach said .

The two teams were supposed to play again this past Tuesday, but the contest was postponed by rain.
