Local Girls Soccer Teams Advance

valenciavikingslogoThe Valencia girls soccer team is moving on in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.

But no one might ever know who scored the goal that put the Valencia girls in the second round.

The Valencia girls shut out Moorpark, 1-0, scoring a goal in the 22nd minute of the game. Lindsay Bos took a free kick from 25 yards out and the ball deflected off a player’s leg into the goal.

Valencia’s Eryn Spencer was the closest player to the ball before it went into the goal, but she said she didn’t touch the ball.

Regardless, she was given credit for the goal and the Valencia girls are in the second round of the playoffs.

In other soccer playoff games, the Canyon girls shut out Peninsula, 1-0. Mari Kneisel scored in the 78th minute to break a scoreless tie in the first-round Division 2 playoff game.

Meghan Kennedy made seven saves to record the shutout for Canyon.

The Hart girls soccer team shut out San Marcos, 1-0, in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs. Ally Perez scored midway through the first half and the Indians made her goal stand up through the game.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls shut out Rolling Hills Prep, 1-0, in the first round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs at Central Park.

Collette Blake scored the lone goal of the game in the 70th minute.

The Saugus girls soccer team lost to Westlake, 4-0, in the first-round of the Division 2 playoffs. Saugus goalkeeper Maddie Hebert faced 14 shots in the game and made 10 saves.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Lakers, 125-101, in a game at Staples Center. The Clippers hit 16 3-pointers and are 3-0 against the Lakers this season.

In the NHL, the Kings are home for a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. The Kings are coming off a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.
