Good afternoon Saugus. This week we stayed around the average number of reported Part-1 crimes. There was a burglary to a detached garage in the 22600 block of Decoro Drive between Wednesday, 02/06/2013 and Saturday, 02/09/2013. The suspect(s) broke the padlock and roll up door to gain entry. A high dollar generator was taken.

There was a commercial burglary from a local convenience store in the 28400 block of Copper Hill Drive on Saturday, 02/09/2013 at approximately 4:00 p.m. The suspects entered the store and stole nearly $800 worth of miscellaneous merchandise. The suspects then fled in a small sport utility vehicle. Detectives are actively working the case.

There was a petty theft from the 22900 block of Oakridge Drive between Friday, 02/08/2013 and Saturday, 02/09/2013. Suspect(s) unknown stole miscellaneous property from a small storage box in the underground parking area.

There was a theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 23000 block of Soledad Canyon Road on Monday, 02/04/2013 at approximately 3:00 a.m. The victim had his wallet stolen from his vehicle when he left it unlocked while he entered a business for approximately 15 minutes.

The Saugus area has seen a decrease in part-1 crimes over the past five weeks. Violent crime has dropped dramatically with only 2 reported incidents as compared to 10 by this same time period last year. Property crime is also down with only 46 crimes reported this year as compared to 57 this time last year. The only increase in crime we have seen in the Saugus zone this year is in petty thefts with 7 additional crimes reported, in comparison to last year at this time. Please remember to lock your vehicles and take all items of value with you when leaving it unattended. Also, please remember that when out in a public setting it is dangerous to leave your valuables sitting on a table or unattended for any period of time. The majority of these are crimes of opportunity. The best way to prevent from becoming a victim of this type of crime is to never give the criminal an opportunity in the first place.
