Feb. 10: SCV Chinese School to Celebrate Year of the Snake

scvchineseschool2013The Santa Clarita Valley Chinese School – on the campus of the Albert Einstein Academy in Valencia – will ring in the Chinese New Year with a cultural event celebrating the Year of the Snake.

The free event will be held at the school (28141 Kelly Johnson Parkway) on Sunday, Feb. 10, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will include cultural displays and hands-on educational activities.

Among the things to be experienced are traditional musical instruments, zodiacs, paper lanterns, performances, traditional foods, Chinese calligraphy, literature and more.

The snake is one fo the 12 symbols of the Chinese zodiac, and 2013 is represented by the water snake, which is said to be lucky with finances.

“The always seem to have money flowing their way,” according to a statement from the school. “They are adventurous spirits and love to take risks. They are also very intelligent and often a wellspring of creative ideas.

“Water snakes love to socialize and meet new friends. They are proud of their achievements, and also very thoughtful and considerate of others.”
