Freshman Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez, D-East Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy by Speaker John A. Pérez. The board is comprised of nine members, six whom are legislative.

The Santa Monica Mountains have always been important to the residents of California,” said Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez. “Our schools use them to educate our students on the importance of wildlife. The mountains are a home for animals, and are used for community recreation every day.”

The Santa Monica Conservancy has preserved over 69,000 acres of parkland in both wilderness and urban settings. The Conservancy has improved over 114 public recreational facilities in Southern California since its establishment by the California State Legislator in 1980. The Conservancy’s mission is to strategically buy back, preserve, protect, restore and enhance the treasures of Southern California.
