Jerry Buss owner of the Los Angles Lakers died yesterday. He was 80 years old.
Buss died of kidney failure at Ceders-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills after a an 18 month battle with cancer.
Buss who spent his childhood in Wyoming bought the Lakers in 1979 for 67 million dollars. Currently the Lakers are valued at over 1 billion dollars.
Buss took just two and a half years to complete his undergraduate education at the University of Wyoming and later earned in a PHD in chemistry at USC.
Many former Lakers including Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant considered Buss to be a father figure.
Buss whose teams racked up 10 NBA titles successfully shepherded the Lakers from the Magic era in the 1900′s, to encouraging his son Jim Buss to trade for Dwight Howard last summer.
Many at College of the Canyons reacted to Buss’s death with concern and uncertainty regarding the Lakers future.
I took some time to interview a few college of the canyons students on their feelings and thoughts of the Lakers and Jerry Buss death, this is what they had to say.
“Jerry buss death is truly a loss in the world of basketball,“ Noah Jacobson, a COC student said.
“It’s a bummer and a big loss the Lakers owner dying,” Angel Hernandez, another COC student added.
Hernandez’s friend, Anthony Kahn agreed.
“The LA Lakers future will depend on whoever the new owner will be.”
