Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Newhall will host its 69th annual barbecue on the weekend of Sept. 20-22, transforming the church grounds into a family-friendly carnival atmosphere with rides, game booths and live music.
A new pit has been built for the barbecue feast that caps the three-day event on Sunday. The beef will be slow roasted in a deep pit for 24 hours prior to serving on Sunday night.
“Proceeds from the barbecue this year will go towards the building of a new church, which the city of Santa Clarita views as a wonderful enhancement to the Lyons Avenue corridor of Newhall,” said co-chairman Robert Love.
Highlights of the weekend include:
* Carnival rides;
* Game booths;
* International food booths; and
* Face painting.
The barbecue will be held on church grounds at 23233 Lyons Ave., just east of Orchard Village Road.
The times are: Friday, Sept. 20, 6-11 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 21, 4-11 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 22, noon to 8 p.m. Admission is free. Tickets for game booths, rides and food can be purchased at the event.
