Jersey Mike’s is opening its fifth location in the Santa Clarita Valley on Wednesday, this time in the Plaza at Golden Valley.
“We are thrilled with our newest location, and in keeping with the Jersey Mike’s tradition of helping local schools and organizations, we are donating our proceeds this week to help Golden Valley High School,” said Amy Sandberg, marketing director for Jersey Mike’s.
The special donation-sandwich deal will take place Wednesday through Friday, Sandberg said.
“We are asking for a minimum of $2 donation for a free sub,” she added, with all of the proceeds going to the high school’s performing arts programs.
Members of the school’s choirs will be at the store Wednesday, and the Golden Valley Grizzlies marching band plans to be at the location Thursday.
“We’re excited to work with (Principal Sal Frias) and Golden Valley,” Sandberg said. “We’ve been in talks since late last year and we’ve had a tremendous reception from the community.”
The company started back in 1956, and was originally called Mike’s Subs, according to Jersey Mike’s website.
There are five locations locally owned in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The franchise first opened the small shop in the seaside town of Point Pleasant, N.J., which was later purchased by a 17-year-old store employee who still runs the franchising of the businesses today, according to Jersey Mike’s website.
Point Pleasant is near the Jersey Shore, approximately one hour south of New York City, one hour east of Philadelphia, and about three hours north of Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C.
