Jake Lambirth, West Ranch High School

This week’s Wendys of Santa Clarita and SCVTV Student Athlete of the Week is Jake Lambirth of West Ranch.  Jake has a 4.13 GPA but has yet to take either college entry exam.  The 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior lineman says there is one word he can use that best describes how football and the classroom intertwine.

“Discipline,” he said.  “Without football I probably wouldn’t be doing as well in school as I am now.  It taught me how to work hard on things that aren’t always fun but you just have to get through it.”

With a bent toward math and science, and with an exceptional talent on the football field to go with the classroom, Jake has an impressive list of colleges hoping HE will chose one of them.

“Right now the colleges looking at me are Brown, Cornell, Penn and Princeton,” Jake said.

And while he hasn’t quite narrowed it down to what he wants to study, he knows what he doesn’t want to study.

“Anything but english and history,” he said.

When asked about his role models growing up as well as now, his first answer comes as no surprise.

“My parents, obviously,” Jake answered.  But his second answer might catch you off guard.  “But football mentors I would have to say Connor Eichten (former West Ranch quarterback and older brother to current teammate Andrew “Ace” Eichten).  When I was a sophomore he was the quarterback on the team.  And (also former teammate) Nick Nowakowski.  He’s a machine.”

Congratulations to Jake Lambirth of West Ranch High School, the Wendys of Santa Clarita and SCVTV Student Athlete of the Week.
