The common theme has been duly noted: Liberals “feel” every aspect of life. Unfortunately, in the real world, emotion overshadows – if not displaces – intellect and reasoning.
For instance, it would be blissful if every American citizen had health insurance. Lovely thought but not practical. When a reasoned mind gets down to putting it into practice, the goal cannot be accomplished. It is the application of the aim that brings reasoning and intellect into play. The emotion (feeling) has to take second seat when getting down to the actual practice.
There are plenty of examples.
Every single person in this country cannot have “affordable” – let alone “free” – healthcare. It is impossible both financially and practically, because everyone would have to be a sensible, responsible person willing to make the necessary sacrifices to have, and then seek, a health plan.
It does not and will not happen. Not everyone is going to get a job, nor is everyone going to forfeit that deluxe cell phone plan, Cadillac cable service, new car, or Starbucks visits to pay health insurance costs for themselves and their dependents.
Further, the responsible ones who do step up to the plate cannot afford to pay for themselves plus all of the taxation that comes with coddling the irresponsible ones.
As a result, when conservatives point out these facts, liberals label them as hating the needy, the poor, the sick, and so on.
Conservatives propose a law-abiding country with regard to illegal immigration. They are then labeled by liberals as haters of all immigrants, and libs freely stretch it to haters of anything other than people with white skin.
It’s easy to feel good mouthing that everyone in the world should reap the benefits of America, but it is not operable in the real world. No matter how liberals try to color it, it is impossible to keep an orderly society when the country’s president, his attorney general and the “government” (whatever that means these days) do not enforce the laws.
The “hate” label is applied as well to anyone who wants to display a cross, bring civility back to business by reigning in the thuggery of unions, and demand that teachers actually teach children the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic.
Conservatives want to protect American citizens’ constitutional right to vote. They want that right to glean its pure value. The only say-so the average Joe has is his vote. The most effective way to ensure that value is to enact and practice voter integrity and voter identification. Yet when the subject is voiced by conservatives, once again they are negatively labeled as hating the disenfranchised.
The most glaring aspect of voting rights is that liberals and most Democrats make it a partisan issue. Voting integrity is supposed to be one of our most cherished rights as a democracy, and it has turned into a political spitball fight.
The same certainly applies to abortion. If you believe in the sanctity of life, and that the unborn cannot speak for themselves, then you are hatefully trying to control women’s freedom of choice.
Many believe life begins at conception. It seems insane even to have to argue that there is life with the sounds of a fetal heartbeat – but it happens. When conservatives express either of the aforementioned beliefs, liberals label them as hating women and accuse them of wanting to control women’s bodies.
Liberals demand to control every aspect of our lives down to what kind of light bulbs we use, the kind of toilets we install, what size soda we can buy, if and/or where we can smoke, if we can exercise our Second Amendment right to own a gun without infringement by the fringes, where we can send our kids to school and what they will be taught, and so on. Most dangerously, they now mandate what kind and how much healthcare we can receive.
Conservatives want law and order, abiding by the constitution, and they promote personal accountability, while liberals promote chaos and control over very part of the lives of others. (No one ever accused them of living by the same rules.) For the efforts of trying to be responsible, conservatives are assigned the role of haters.
Funny how that works. Conservatives are titled haters for supposedly trying to control people’s bodies while liberals openly dominate people’s lives and minds.
But heck, they do it with “feeling.”
Betty Arenson has lived in the SCV since 1968 and describes herself as a conservative who’s concerned about progressives’ politics and their impacts on the country, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She says she is unashamed to own a gun or a Bible, couldn’t care less about the color of the president’s skin, and demands that he uphold his oath to protect and follow the Constitution of the United States in its entirety. Her commentary publishes Fridays.
