College of the Canyons held a workshop Wednesday to prepare students and prospective employees for the job fair.
Students and prospective employees learned how to separate themselves from other job seekers and stand out for the employers. The workshop taught the attendees how to dress appropriately, how to begin an interview and what to put on their resumes.
Over fifty registered employers will be attending the Job Fair, on Wednesday April 24th. The registered employers include Aerotek, AT&T, Sprint and Six Flags among others.
“Hopefully they [COC students] do some research on the companies. They need to apply online for some of these companies beforehand so, when they talk to those employers they can say ‘I have already applied, and I am very interested’ things like that,” said Career Services Director, Anthony Michaelides.
“It’s really about doing a little work before the job fair so, you just don’t show up that day kind of blind and unprepared.”
The workshop taught the attendees what keywords and what type of work experience employees look for in resumes, even for full-time students with minimal work experience.
“What skills do you have from your courses from your education here at COC. So, you might want to talk about team work, worked in a lot of teams. ‘I have project to management background,’ you have writing skills,” said Michaelides.
“I came [to the workshop] because I really want to prepare myself in attaining a long term career and not just a temporary job,” said COC student Connor Van der Linde.
The job fair will take place in the Cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
