Valentine Reminder: Don't Feed Pets Chocolate

valentineheartdogWith love in the air on Valentine ’s Day, the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) would like to remind pet owners to not forget about their four-legged Valentines. “We know our pets give us unconditional love all year long, so do something especially nice for them this Valentine’s Day,” said Marcia Mayeda, director for the Department of Animal Care and Control.

While heart shaped chocolate boxes may be the ideal Valentine treat for your sweetheart, keep the chocolate treats far away from your pets. Instead, you can pick up special treats for your pets at any grocery or pet store, or if you really want to spoil them, visit a dog bakery for treats that any human would envy.

If you’re looking for a new furry Valentine, our six animal care centers have a wonderful selection of animals available for adoption.  Visit your local animal care center or view our animals online at www.animalcare.lacounty.gov.
