The Master’s College Men’s Cross Country & Track programs have signed Hart High School’s Joshua Sherfey. Hailing from Valencia, the multi-sport athlete is currently finishing his senior year and looks forward to competing with the Mustangs in the fall of 2013.
Sherfey, who was 2012 first-team All-Foothill League selection, enters The Master’s College with a background highlighted by Freshmen and Sophomore Foothill League individual championships in the 1600 and 3200 meter events. Sherfey is also a four-year letterman in cross country with the Indians and is a recent recipient of the school’s Honors Scholar Cross Country Academic Award.
Amongst the schools Sherfey was considering, the new recruit chose The Master’s College because he wanted to “grow in a community whose overall goal is to glorify the Lord.” Sherfey further commented on his choice by saying, “I’m most looking forward to having classes which have a foundation on God’s word.”
Sherfey’s goals as a student-athlete are to meet new people, be the best runner he can be, and one day become an NAIA All-American. Underlying Sherfey’s specific goals is a deep desire to glorify God through his running and use it to share the gospel with others.
“We’re looking for Josh to be an immediate contributor,” said Mustang cross country and track coach Zach Schroeder. “I expect him to be a scorer for us as early as this fall. We’re also very excited about the spiritual influence he’ll have on the team. I’ve had a chance to spend a lot of time with Josh over the past year as we’ve been recruiting him; his depth of relationship with the Lord has been a tremendous encouragement to me personally.”
