CougarNews.com | Golden Valley's Leon Jacobs heads to Wisconsin

Earning a scholarship to one of the nation’s premiere football programs is hard, but doing it while juggling two other sports, along with academics, is even harder.

That’s exactly what Leon Jacobs has done.

Jacobs, has made himself a near-unstoppable force in the Foothill League as a running back, earning himself a full ride to the University of Wisconsin. All the while, he has excelled as a basketball player, and is now going to enter track and field for the first time — not to mention he has maintained a very solid GPA.

Because of all he has accomplished in the past year, you would assume that someone of his age would let all of the success get to his head. Not Leon.

“Everything I’ve always wanted, is finally here. I can’t sleep now,” says Jacobs. Not being able to sleep is justified when you’re preparing to play on national television in front of 85,000 fans.

In December, Jacobs committed to Fresno State University. However, shortly after, he decommitted from Fresno State, and decided to head out of state to Wisconsin.

“I never really liked the way [Fresno State] recruited me. Wisconsin did a much better job, and I felt like they really got to know me, and cared more. I immediately felt more at home at Wisconsin, without even visiting. It was just the way they made me feel.”

Jacobs dominated as a running back, but was recruited as an outside linebacker for his overall size and build, although he did play linebacker during his only year at Golden Valley High School.

One thing is certain, he possesses the athleticism to perform at high level at just about any position or sport, and if you doubt that, maybe his 6 foot, 4 inch, 220 pound frame may change your mind.
