The recently released 2013 California Retail Survey ranked the City of Santa Clarita 22 among the “Top 100 Retail Markets of California Cities,” based on annual retail sales growth in the last five years. The City of Santa Clarita was one of only 26 cities with a retail market above $2 billion and ranked higher than Beverly Hills, Burbank, and Glendale, among others.

In the last year, the City of Santa Clarita has seen a steady increase in retail sales. In fact, sales tax numbers in the fourth quarter 2012 and first quarter 2013 were on par with pre-recession numbers, indicating residents are shopping and businesses are rebounding from The Great Recession. More than 40 new tenants have opened at Westfield Valencia Town Center along with two new auto dealerships, Mini Cooper and Volkswagen, in the Valencia Auto Row. Santa Clarita has also seen new restaurants and stores along Main Street in Old Town Newhall as well as in the Plaza at Golden Valley in Canyon Country as the City and various business organizations work to attract the companies residents want to see in Santa Clarita.

citydollarsign“The City is always working with local business organizations to attract the restaurants and retail outlets our residents want to see, which means more opportunities to shop and eat locally and increased sales tax generation to fund new parks, roads, and City-funded amenities, ” said Mayor Bob Kellar.

The 2013 California Retail Survey ranks the largest cities in California based on dollar volume, growth rates, and sales per outlet. The publication is a respected source of market intelligence for corporate and government executives with analysis and rankings based on actual sales results from retailers in the state.
