Sept. 11: Art Reception at City Hall Tonight

arts_logo-graphic_genericThe public is invited to join the Santa Clarita City Council, Arts Commission, and Arts and Events Office on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at City Hall (23920 W. Valencia Blvd.) for a reception celebrating the newest exhibits in the First Floor Gallery, “Spring Prints: 2013 Santa Clarita Valley Photographer’s Association Competition” and “An Artistic Discovery: Congressional Art Competition 2013.”  For the first time in the history of the gallery, two exhibits are being presented at the same time.

The Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association (SCVPA) Spring Print Competition took place on May 4 at William S. Hart Hall.  The annual competition features member’s artwork and winners in a variety of categories and those that received a merit are featured in the First Floor Gallery at City Hall.

U.S. Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, invited high school aged students in the 25th Congressional District to participate in the 2013 Competition.  Sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives, each congressional district across the nation hosted a district-wide art competition to encourage student participation in the arts, and chose a winning piece of artwork to hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol.  The works featured in this exhibit represent the finalists for the competition in the 25th district.

Enjoy this vibrant collection of artwork that will be on display through November 29, 2013. Come meet the artists’, talk to others that are excited about art, and enjoy light appetizers and entertainment.
