Roundup: Hart No. 1 in CIF Poll, West Ranch Moves Up

sports_footballhelmetSCVThe Hart football team maintained its No. 1 spot in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll. West Ranch was the big mover in the top 10.


Hart won its season opener, 56-49, over Santiago from Corona.


West Ranch moved up to No. 7 in the Northern Division top 10 after shutting out Hawthorne in its opener.


Canyon moved up a notch to No. 4 after beating Westlake in its season opener.


Valencia is the No. 3 team in the Northern Division poll. The Viking plays their season opener against Palmdale on Friday night.


In cross country, the Saugus and Hart boys teams are ranked in the top 10 of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 preseason poll.


The Saugus boys are No. 6 and the Hart boys are No. 8. Redondo Union is the top-ranked team in the Division 2 preseason poll.


The Saugus girls are ranked No. 2 in the Division 2 poll. Simi Valley is the No. 1 team in Division 2.


In soccer, The Master’s College women beat the University of La Verne, 5-2, scoring four goals in the second half.


Jasmine Benson gave the Lady Mustangs a 1-0 lead with a goal in the first half. She also had an assist. Jordan Benson scored in the second half to give her team a 4-1 lead. She assisted on Natasha Coyle’s goal in the second half.


The Master’s College women are 5-0 in their first five games of the season.


In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies, 7-4, and won their sixth game in a row.


Carl Crawford was 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. The Dodgers and Rockies wrap up their series today in Colorado.
