Kyle Williams, West Ranch High School

This week’s Wendy’s of Santa Clarita and SCVTV Student Athlete of the Week is Kyle Williams from West Ranch boys basketball. Kyle has a 4.25 GPA and scored 1910 on the SAT and 28 on the ACT. He has his eye on the future and knows doing well in the classroom makes that future better.

“I know it’s just going to help me a lot in the future,” said Kyle, a 6-foot-4 two-year starter on the Foothill League champion Wildcats basketball team. “It will help me get into college which will help me get a job in the future.”

He applied to ten different colleges, including three UC schools, a couple of Cal State’s and only one outside of California — Northern Arizona. But his preference is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

“They have a really good engineering program which is what I’m looking at,” he said. “I took a tour up there and it was really nice, the weather and everything. It’s just a good atmosphere.”

Engineering is what he wants to study, but unlike so many students who want to design and build, Kyle wants to take his engineering into medicine.

“I am looking into bio-medical engineering,” Kyle said. “I want to apply physics and math to it but I also like using it for medical purposes.”

When asked about his inspiration for doing so well academically, he immediately talked about the most important woman in his life.

“My mom’s always pushed me really hard in school,” he said. “Just since middle school, she’s always pushed me to get ‘A’s’ in every class and she’s helped me with my grades and studying and stuff.”

Congratulations to Kyle Williams of West Ranch High School, the Wendy’s of Santa Clarita and SCVTV Student Athlete of the Week.
