A Santa Clarita general contracting firm announced it’s largest contract to date.  AMG & Associates, Inc. has been awarded a $17-million contract to construct a new elementary school in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District. The school will include a multipurpose building with a kitchen, an administration building and five classroom buildings, including a kindergarten.

“AMG is extremely pleased to have been awarded this project,” said AMG President and CEO Albert Giacomazzi. “The timing is ideal and, with our tremendous amount of Division of State Architect project experience, it fits our company perfectly.”

AMG will oversee construction of all structures, as well as earthwork and underground utility installation. They won the bidding process by just $12,000 and will use local subcontractors to complete the project.

SMBSD Superintendent Phil Alvarado said that the new school will help relieve some of the overcrowding the district is currently facing. With enrollment growing by more than 3,000 students over the last 10 years, classrooms, libraries, cafeterias and playgrounds have all been impacted.

“We know the community is celebrating the new school with us and will continue to support quality educational facilities for the children of Santa Maria,” Alvarado said. “Local residents understand that large construction projects, like a new elementary school, mean jobs and money that help bolster the local economy. Santa Maria-Bonita is pleased to be able to help strengthen the community that has always supported our schools and students.”

“The Board of Education members are pleased and excited to provide the students of Santa Maria with a beautiful, state-of-the-art campus,” said School Board President Linda Cordero. “We know that the new school, which will be named during the building process, will be a safe, inviting, inspirational place where staff and students will be happy to work and learn.”

Giacomazzi and his team are thankful for the opportunity that the new project provides.

“We’re looking forward to working with the SMBSD, PMSM Architects and local subcontractors for a mutually successful project,” Giacomazzi said. “AMG feels privileged to make such an important contribution to the Santa Maria community through the construction of this much-needed new school.”
