Hart Still #1 in CIF Football Poll; Valencia Climbs to #3 Spot

harthighindianslogoThe Hart football team remained as the No. 1 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll. The Indians have been No. 1 for six weeks in a row.


The Canyon football team took a big hit, dropping from No. 2 to No. 8.


The Valencia football team moved up a couple spots to No. 3.


Hart crushed Birmingham, 42-13, to run its record to 4-0.


Canyon lost to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, the No. 10 team in the Southern Section Pac-5 Division and ranked No. 21 in the state by CalHiSports.


The Valencia football team beat Santa Monica, 42-21, and improved to 3-1.


The West Ranch football team held on to the No. 10 spot in the Northern Division after beating Oxnard, 7-3.


The Trinity Classical Academy football team is ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section Division 2 8-man poll. Trinity beat Kings Christian, 50-12.


In college volleyball, Sam Dougherty from The Master’s College was selected as the Golden State Athletic Conference player of the week.


The Master’s College beat Hope International and nationally ranked Vanguard last week. Dougherty had 15 kills and 12 digs in a three-game sweep against Hope International.


She had 27 kills and 12 digs in a five-game match against Vanguard, ranked No. 17 in the NAIA. The Master’s College is ranked No. 21 in the NAIA.


In baseball, the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Texas Rangers, 5-2, in the American League Wild-Card play-in game.


David Price pitched a complete game seven-hitter to eliminate the Rangers from the playoffs.


The Rays will play the Cleveland Indians in the American League Wild-Card round.
