Santa Clarita residents will be participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS’s) Light The Night® (LTN) annual Santa Clarita Valley walk on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Bridgeport Park.
Check-in opens at 5:00 p.m. and all guests are invited to visit the local sponsors, team and LLS tents in addition to the kid zone, which has been expanded this year to include more activities.
Walkers and attendees who raise $100 or more are recognized at check-in as a Champion for Cures. As a Champion for Cures, they receive a LTN t-shirt, an illuminated balloon and a wristband which entitles them to food and refreshments.
Those who raise $1,000 or more are recognized as Bright Lights and receive a Bright Lights club t-shirt and pin. Bright Lights also receive an illuminated balloon, a wristband which entitles them to food and refreshments, a note of thanks from a patient family and special recognition online and in LTN publications.
The event features a program to kick-off the walk. This year, Mayor Bob Kellar will be speaking to add to an evening filled with inspiration as the walkers, volunteers and other guests bring light to the dark world of cancer and hope to individuals and families batting blood cancer.
During the leisurely walk, which will feature a new start and street closures to benefit walkers, participants carry their illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.
Since 2005, the Santa Clarita Valley community has raised over $1.1 million to support the LLS mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
