[KHTS] – A memorial for a former College of the Canyons students who died in a car crash in Idaho last week is being planned for Saturday, according to the teen’s father.
The family will be holding a memorial for Colleen N. Jackson, 19, of Saugus, which will be open to the public in Chatsworth on Saturday.
The memorial is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Memorial Park at 22601 Lassen Ave. in Chatsworth.
Jackson was killed Thursday when a car she lost control of a car she was driving in a single-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 15, milepost 105, south of Shelley, Idaho, on Thursday.
Colleen Jackson also was a member of the Idaho State University rodeo team, where she went to school.
The team is planning to hold a memorial barrel race for her on Oct. 23 at Bannock County Fairgrounds in Idaho.
“Our team is going to have a race and scholarship in her memory,” said Kiara Wanner, a friend of Jackson and a fellow teammate. “I was very close with Colleen.”
Colleen Jackson was driving a 2005 Dodge Pickup northbound when she approached a slower moving vehicle, according to a collision report from Idaho State Police.
Jackson made an abrupt lane change from the right lane to the left lane, and she over-corrected back to the right lane where she lost control of the vehicle and rolled.
Jackson was ejected along with her passengers, Weston J. Clements, 23, of Bancroft, and Ross C. Barfuss, 24, also of Bancroft.
Clements was transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.Barfuss was transported by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center
Jackson succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Idaho State Police was assisted by Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Shelley QRU, and the Blackfoot Fire Department.
None of the occupants were wearing seat belts. The ISP report do not have the current status of her passengers.
This crash is still under investigation.
