Hart Board, Teachers Union Come to Terms; Grad Schedule Set

wsh_logo_best_hartdistrictThe Hart District Governing Board approved a one-year agreement with the Hart District Teachers Association at a regular board meeting Wednesday night.

The agreement calls for full restoration of student days previously eliminated due to budget cuts, a one time off-schedule payment, additional professional development days and an adjustment in minimum days.

The agreement with the HDTA includes:

• Two (2) additional staff development days. These are non-contract days and will be used to help implement Common Core Standards. Unit members will receive their daily rate of pay for attending each staff development day. These student free days are scheduled for November 1, 2013 and February 14, 2014.

• A one time, off-schedule payment equal to 1.5% of the unit member’s current placement on the salary schedule. Payment will be made to said bargaining unit members employed by the District on 9/18/13.

• Restoration of five (5) school days bringing the student total to 180 days. June 6 is the last day of school and June 9 is a teacher work day.

• Because of the full restoration of student days, there are no longer student minimum days for the last day of the first and third quarters beginning with the end of third quarter in March 2014. October 18, 2013 will remain a minimum day.

“It was a positive experience working with the leadership of the Hart District Teachers Association,” Dr. Michael Vierra, assistant superintendent of human resources, said. “Collaboratively, both the District and Association were able to interpret the new State Local Control Funding Formula and agree upon terms that benefit students first but also support faculty and staff. Of particular emphasis was restoring the school year to 180 days for students while also providing paid staff development for teachers in the Common Core State Standards.”

With the last day of school extended to June 6, 2014, graduation dates have now been finalized.

Here is the 2014 graduation schedule:

Friday, May 30 – Valencia High School
